What's FlexWorld?
FlexWorld is a flexible 3D single- and multiplayer sandbox game with an open content system.
Play in interesting worlds and discover fascinating places, like mountains, rivers, lakes, caves, dungeons and buildings. Build your own houses, landscapes and caves. Populate towns and dungeons and fight your way through them.
Gain experience and learn new skills and abilities to get more power and influence. Find or craft weapons and items that might help you in building structures and modifying the terrain, or that assist you fighting the bad guys.
Enhance your town to attract new people to work for you, do research on technology to invent new construction plans for more items and buildings. Earn money by selling your stuff to other towns and spend your money on things that you can't build yourself or to hire people for doing tasks.
Do all of that alone, with friends from all over the world or on a LAN with your local friends and team up or compete.
Create your own enjoyable experience
FlexWorld has an open content system, therefore you can create your own
- characters,
- weapons,
- planets/worlds,
- textures,
- game logics,
- music,
- sound effects
or simply: Everything you can imagine.
Share your stuff or join new worlds by others
Launch a game, open it for others to join and let them enjoy your new content. Watch them playing with your own characters, weapons and many more. Or join new worlds created by others with stuff they created.
You can also setup a server for running a persistent world with many players, enjoyable 24 hours, 7 days a week. Let them join for free or ask for a little fee - or maybe even a donation?
Some details on the open content system
FlexWorld allows you to import 3D models from many formats (.3ds, .x, .blend, .collada and many more) as well as textures (.png, .jpg, .bmp and many more).
Music and sounds can be loaded from .ogg and .wav.
New characters and items (weapons etc.) are described in YAML files with simple attributes like name, size, flags and custom attributes like money value, weight and many more.
Custom planets (maps in FlexWorld; small or big ones) are built in realtime as you play - even together with friends. The amount of planets is not limited.
And finally: Game logics are scripted using Lua, an easy to learn scripting language. You can change nearly every aspect of the game, for example what happens when players join, attack, chat, buy, sell etc.
All those resources are shared on-demand, so if you join a world that offers assets you don't own, they're downloaded on-the-fly, without any annoying interruptions. And if you're running a persistent server, you don't even need to restart it for most of the changes you might plan to do while the game is running.
Where to get it? What does it cost?
FlexWorld hasn't been released yet, however you can apply as a tester to help with development and funding.
What does it cost?
You can buy FlexWorld publicly as soon as it reaches alpha status. Before that status the game is in pre-alpha where only testers can try it (see below if you want to become one!).
Pre-alpha costs $4.99, alpha will be slightly more expensive, as will beta and so on. Pre-alpha buyers will receive a special bonus when FlexWorld will be finally released in version 1.0. We're still thinking about what that will be, but it will for sure be something unique.
Whenever you should decide to buy FlexWorld, you will get all future versions of the 0.x and 1.x branches for free.
I would like to be a tester
Send a short e-mail to support@flexworld-game.com that includes your name, country and age. You'll get a reply as soon as possible with information on purchasing and some other important things.
As a tester you can actively take part in the development process - if you like. You get access to the latest source code management commit messages and an account is created for our task- and bug-tracking system where you can write down your wishes and vote on features you'd like to see.
Please understand that the amount of testers is limited and applications may be closed at any time.
